Vaillant – The limited space makes the establishment and the supply of renewable energies in cities challenging
Vaillant, as one of this year’s silver sponsors of Decarb Cities forum, answers the following questions and shares its vision on the decarbonisation of cities.
Why cities are essential for the decarbonization of the energy system?
The bigger part of our population lives in cities and suburban areas. As a result, the demand of energy and also the CO2 reduction potential is much more concentrated in cities, than in other locations. Because of the limited space, it is challenging to establish and supply renewable energies in cities. Therefore a broad open technology approach will be required to be able to transform cities into carbon free living areas.
What is your vision for decarbonizing heating and cooling in Europe by 2050?
The decarbonisation of cities as well as the goals till 2050, as agreed in the Paris climate agreement, are ambitious and challenging not only for Europe but for the whole world. In our vision, all market participants must contribute and do their best to maintain this goal. Current established energy sources and proven energy efficient systems, as well as new technologies, have to work together to successfully transform the energy market. Fundamental target is the drastic increase of the replacement share of old and inefficient boilers. This goal can be achieved by quick and intelligent political decisions which will set the path.
Only together it will be possible to be successful.
What is your contribution to this vision as stakeholder in your professional environment?
As a traditional and experienced supplier for heating and cooling equipment, Vaillant is constantly developing and improving technology how energy can be used in the most efficient and comfortable way. We have deeply adopted the outcome of the Paris climate agreement and actively want to be part of the transition in the energy sector towards decarbonisation. Beside the optimisation of gas-based applications, Vaillant currently invests heavily into Heat Pumps, being the most efficient heating medium in the electric sector.
