NIBE – We need to utilise our natural resources in a smarter way
[/av_textblock]
[av_textblock size=’16’ font_color=” color=”]
NIBE, as one of this year’s silver sponsors of Decarb Cities forum, answers the following questions and shares its vision on the decarbonisation of cities.
Why cities are essential for the decarbonisation of the energy system?
Almost 70% of all Europeans live in cities and the urbanisation is continuing. It is estimated that 85% of the population will live in cities by 2050. Today around 70% of all energy use can be attributed to cities and 75% of all greenhouse gas emissions. It is evident that sustainable city planning is one of our most important provisions to fight climate change.
We can all actively contribute to a more sustainable future for our children and grandchildren. This can be achieved by consistently moving towards an increased use of energy efficient and environmentally friendly products. But it will take more than just improving conventional indoor climate solutions based on fossil energy sources to reach these global environmental goals. Oil, coal and gas need to be replaced by energy sources that don’t cause irreversible damage to our nature.
The environment is a rapidly growing global topic in our everyday conversations, and the political importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not to be taken lightly. By holding on to ineffective ways of creating and using energy, our lifestyles are responsible for the damage now visible in every corner of the world. With the ambition to become a more climate-smart society, we must go through a technological change. Energy solutions based on fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas, must be replaced with smart products and systems that work with the smallest possible impact on the environment.
Despite high levels of awareness when it comes to environmentally- friendly technology, conventional gas boilers are still dominating the European market mainly because of energy prices and investment costs for the consumer. But the perception of climate-smart energy as expensive is false, as it brings lower operating costs and therefore is more economically beneficial in the long term.
On an everyday level, one of the aspects driving this energy shift is the movement of people who produce their own energy, and we will see the rise of private initiatives and peer-to-peer solutions evolving from this flexible and — soon to be — decentralised market. With the way the energy supply market is developing, households will be able to generate their own electricity, for example via solar panels, to a much greater extent in the near future. Solar technology has gone through a dramatic change over the last couple of years, making it possible to absorb solar energy and turn it into electricity to be used in the household. In addition to this, the surplus of power is transferred to the grid where it is sold to other consumers, giving the producer the ability to both use locally harvested energy and provide it for others — all while bringing down consumption costs and doing the environment a well-needed favour.
We believe that the answer to the future of energy is right in front of us. It’s quite simple — we just need to utilise our natural resources in a smarter way. And there is no time to waste since the rising world population, declining resources and a suffering climate are reshaping how and where we live.
What is your vision for decarbonizing heating and cooling in Europe by 2050?
The progress for NIBE Climate solution in energy technology has long been recognised both at home in Sweden and internationally and NIBEs vision is a 100 per cent renewable, climate-smart future.
The technology we are working with is a big piece in the puzzle that aims in future to make 100 per cent use of the amazing energy that we obtain completely free of charge from the sun, the air and the earth.
With a legacy of thriving in conditions others consider harsh, our goal is to enable sustainable energy solutions for everyone — everywhere. Our products can cool, heat, ventilate and supply your home with hot water, creating an enjoyable indoor climate with minimal impact on the environment. And by using local natural power, together we can build a more sustainable future. This is our mission and the NIBE brand promise “It’s in our nature “.
What is your contribution to this vision as stakeholder in your professional environment?
With a heritage of pushing technological advancement, NIBE Climate Solutions has always been a pioneer of indoor climate. Environmental issues are being discussed more than ever before, and we are proud to provide sustainable solutions for generations to come.
NIBE Climate Solutions contributes to a more sustainable future with products that create a perfect indoor climate at minimal cost for both the users and the environment. We manufacture these intelligent and connected solutions. These NIBE branded products provide heating, cooling, ventilation and hot water by capturing and amplifying energy from the ground, air, water, sun and even the building itself. Looking further up the stream, the NIBE Group has almost 70 years of experience in manufacturing energy efficient products. Offering the market products and concepts that improve both the finances and indoor climate for people has been our passion for many years.
The recipe for our progress is based on a bold mission, clear economic objectives and strong values, that we communicate to all companies within the business area, pushing every division in our company to continuously invest in research and development, to ensure that our production meets the highest expectations in terms of productivity, quality and sustainability.
